Your FAQ's about homeopathy
So many questions about this amazing medical model - here's a few!
What kind of illness does homeopathy treat?
The answer to that frankly is: just about anything. Homeopathy won’t put broken bones back together; but it will dramatically decrease the healing time for fractures. I’ve personally experienced this myself several times.
Homeopathy has been used for centuries to treat and prevent infectious diseases —from the plague to cholera, malaria to eczema, rabies to cancer, polio to parvo, thyroid to glaucoma, menopausal symptoms to inflammatory bowel disease, and much more.
You name it, and homeopathy can help. This is because the remedy selection isn’t based that much on the diagnosis, or even on the category of disease, but on the specific expressions of the individual’s vital force. It’s an individualized, truly holistic form of medicine that depends on the cause of disease more than on a diagnosis. It’s interested in the unusual symptoms more than the common ones; and in the specific, tiny details more than the generalized ones.
Homeopathy can treat humans, animals (wild and domestic), insects, fish, and even plants! As long as you have a vital force or energetic body, homeopathy can help.
Can I use Chinese herbs or acupuncture with homeopathy?
Just like the overload of information on the internet, the vital force can be overwhelmed with too much medicinal information. That would be akin to what most elder folks in this country are now suffering from: the ‘disease’ of polypharmacy. It’s best not to mix modalities — except in rare situations where some very skilled practitioners of both modalities might be able to combine them.
Most classical homeopaths prefer to not mingle homeopathy with acupuncture or herbs. But doing so with chiropractic adjustments, laser therapy, flower essences, and mild western herbs is usually perfectly fine. Just keep in mind that too many cooks do spoil the broth!
Are aggravations always a part of homeopathic treatment?
No, not always. However, the expression of certain symptoms may be a necessary step in the healing process.
The body is very efficient at healing through discharge and inflammation (think of the last flu or food poisoning you experienced). If you’re treating chronic ailments there’s nothing to be alarmed about if your animal has a vomiting episode or diarrhea — unless it occurs more than once. Then you should contact your supporting practitioner. If you’ve given suppressive allopathic medicines (antibiotics, topical ointments, steroids, etc.) in the past, you can almost always expect a discharge, fever and/or malaise. But never for long, a few hours at the most.
Again, old symptoms previously treated with allopathic drugs might return and may cause concern. Speaking to your homeopathic practitioner about them prior to treatment is imperative.
If the homeopathic remedy isn't the right one, no harm done, right?
Well, not exactly.
Somehow the information circulating about homeopathy today has been distorted regarding the lack of harm if the remedy isn’t the correct choice. Remedies are powerful medicinal substances and always produce some reaction in the body. Just because they’re over-the-counter doesn’t make them entirely neutral.
However, they aren’t nearly as dangerous as taking a prescription drug that contains toxic substances which the liver or kidneys have to detox. But if you’re giving a remedy for a chronic ailment, and you aren’t really trained in using homeopathic remedies, you could see a reaction (described above) that causes concern, and you might be tempted to suppress the symptom. It might be a symptom I would be doing a happy dance over; but you might not understand my reaction if I don’t teach you what to expect or what that reaction means for healing.
Why is homeopathy rejected by so many modern day scientists?
Thankfully the animals aren’t rejecting it!!
The relationship between science and homeopathy is complicated.
The problem started in 1811 with the concept of Avogadro’s Law, which created a method for calculating the number of particles in a given mass. Avogadro’s Law wasn’t really accepted until the mid-19th century. But it turned heads with its implication that none of the substance one started with is still present in the high ultra molecular dilutions of homeopathy (dilutions that we can now more aptly call nano-dilutions). These dilutions are a difficult concept for the conventional medical model, with treatments based purely on physical substance, to accept. It was true 200 years ago, and it still is today. The quantum physicists know this; but the medical world doesn’t.
Although many science-types have never studied the theory, methodology, and practice of homeopathy, they’re often caught in a mindset that assumes a thing cannot be true if it wasn't taught in medical school, or if they don’t know about it. Sad to say.
Now in the 21st century, chaos theory, complexity theory, quantum theory and nano technology are not only providing new methods to measure the actions of homeopathy, they’re also stretching the imagination of theoretical scientists world-wide.
Are there any studies of homeopathy?
Yes, many scientists around the world have conducted studies; and there’s even a study asking if homeopathy is just placebo. Studies are varied and well-documented. There are specific ones for arthritis of the knee, diarrhea, post-operative ileus, allergic rhinitis, as well as for homeopathy and its comparative effectiveness with allopathy. There are even data bases with much research available.
In addition, there are many US-based and international homeopathic associations that house plenty of research on homeopathy; but few are as extensive as the American Institute of Homeopathy’s 2023 list of global research.
So when someone says there’s no scientific basis for homeopathy, you can turn to two sources for back up. There’s your own personal scientific experience with yourself and your animals, plus a sizable number of scientific studies just waiting to be read!
Gratitude
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post! It’s my deepest hope that you give homeopathic remedies a go when you have an issue with yourself, and especially if you have an acute, but not deadly, emergency with your animals. I promise you will see dramatic results and be amazed! I know I am every time I watch the amazing potential of how the body can heal so quickly, so completely, so elegantly!
May you and your animals be strong, healthy, and peaceful!

I broke my arm (radius) two months ago and have been taking symphytum daily ever since. Yesterday the cast was removed and replaced with a brace. I don't know if that is any faster than "normal" but I am pleased it was not longer. I also take ruta grav for the ligaments, especially down the inside of my wrist. I swear they were more painful than the broken bone! With both remedies, I get pain reduction not long after treatment. Thank you Dr Dee for all your years of teaching!
